Description

Oryza sativa is a grass in the Poaceae family. Domestication of this important crop has been estimated at occurring somewhere between 8,200 and 13,500 years ago. We sell the short grain upland rice variety, commonly referred to as var. japonica. This variety grows well in normal non-irrigated fields.

Care and Cultivation of Oryza sativa

Oryza sativa seeds can be planted 0.5cm deep in a well drained seed raising mix and placed in full sun to part shade until germination. Likes adequate water/fertiliser and a full-sun position in well drained soil. Fast growing and hardy. Plant either in a wet situation like the edge of a pond/dam, or simply in the garden.
