Description

Nicotiana heterantha is an nnual or short-lived perennial herb, branching near the base. It forms low spreading mounds on seasonally wet black clay. Decumbent stems develop tufts of leaves at the lower nodes. An interesting inflorescence, a simple or sparsely branched raceme, the axis relatively slender and wiry, to 1 m long, decumbent. Restricted to Melaleuca thickets. Originally though to only be in the Broome region but now proving to be considerably more widespread. Info at FloraSA.

Care and Cultivation of Nicotiana heterantha

Nicotiana heterantha does not require any special treatment to germinate. Simply sow Nicotiana heterantha like other tobacco seeds (sprinkle on the surface of a good quality sandy/well drained potting mix and water in gently). A soil mix high in inorganic materials like sand, pumice, gravel etc is preferable. Germination will occur within 7-21 days. Keep moist until germination. Likes plenty of roots pace in a sandy/well drained position. Full sun. Drought tolerant.
