Description

Psychotria sp. ‘Shute Harbour’ is an Australian endemic species from the Rubiaceae family. As yet unnamed. Many members of the large Psychotria genus are used medicinally. The chemistry of Psychotria sp. ‘Shute Harbour’ is unknown.

A shrub or small tree to 5m (evidently, I have only seen ones to 2m).

This species is closely related to Psychotria daphnoides ‘Large-leaved form’, except Psychotria sp. ‘Shute Harbour’ has leaves that are hairless and glossy on both leaf surfaces, with prominent domatia and it grows north from the Gympie area. Occurs in central QLD, from near Bowen southwards to near Gympie in SE QLD. Grows in monsoon forest and littoral rainforest and dry rainforest near Gympie (from Lucid).

Care and Cultivation of Psychotria sp. ‘Shute Harbour’

Psychotria sp. ‘Shute Harbour’ prefers a part shade, moist, well-drained position in the garden and a rich loam soil with adequate fertiliser. Native Psychotria is very drought tolerant and is suitable for a lot of gardens.
