Citrus australis – Gympie Lime (plant) QLD ONLY!
$11.00 – $350.00
Description
Citrus australis or the Australian Round Lime is native to QLD, from Beenleigh north. Also called Gympie Lime, Doojay or Native Lime. It is a drought hardy native Citrus growing up to 5m in exposed locations or up to 10m in a forest situation. The fruit have a thick rind and have a lot of oils present (they have been described as sticky golfballs); there may be a market for the oil in aromatherapy or perhaps the citrus oil cleaner market (liminone).
The flesh is good and sharp tasting. You can cut the fruit in half and squeeze the odd shaped vesicles out just like Finger Limes; I find them as good as or better than Finger Limes, Dooja are quite underrated at present.
Care and Cultivation of Citrus australis
Citrus australis likes a full sun to part shade position with adequate moisture and regular fertiliser, just like normal Citrus. Easy to care for and drought hardy once established. Keep pruned to desired shape and height.
