Nauclea orientalis is a member of the Rubiaceae family, native to northern Australia and New Guinea, to South-East Asia, including Sri Lanka. A beautiful shade tree for large gardens, wonderfully fragrant flowers are produced in mass in spring. Care and Cultivation of Nauclea orientalis

Smoke treatment is recorded as being helpful for this species. Sow seeds of Nauclea orientalis on the surface of a good quality seed raising mix and cover lightly with seived mix or coarse sand. Gently water in. Seeds should appear within 2-3 weeks at 20-24ºC. Separate when large enough into individual pots.

A large tree in habitat (10-20m) but will be slightly smaller under open growing conditions. Grows well in a subtropical environment. Outside of this in warm or cold temperate climates it would need to be protected during the colder months. Likes good drainage and adequate moisture, although it  is a very tolerant species, subject to seasonal prolonged dry and wet periods. Generally deciduous in the dry season.
