Wasabia japonica is a member of the Brassicaceae family, endemic to areas of Japan. Cultivated for its root which is used as an antidote for fish poisoning and to flavour sashimi. Most commercial wasabi paste/powder on the market is made from horseradish (Armoracia rusticana).

Care and Cultivation Part-shade to almost full shade. Keep in a cool spot like under a nursery bench in warm months. Keep moist at all times. Likes a lot of root space. Tends to wilt in warmer areas over summer but will take off again when temperatures drop.
