Description
Trichocereus Santaensis was originally described by Rauh & Backeberg on November 20, 1956 in their works Die Cactaceae. It was originally found in the Santa Valley of Peru, a valley that travels parallel to the Rio Santa. The valley is known as Callejón de Huaylas or “The Alley of Huaylas” and is found in the Ancash region. An upright species to 5 metres tall. Also an excellent grafting stock.
Collahuasi was collected around the city of Collahuasi in Ancash, Peru.
Care and Cultivation of Trichocereus santaensis ‘Collahuasi’
Keep Collahuasi in part-shade until large enough to deal with full-sun, which will depend on the increasing exposure you give the cactus. Once established, Trichocereus species can be watered most of the year in all climates, although they will cease to grow or slow right down over winter in colder areas. Fertilise regularly with fish emulsion/seaweed at half strength over the growing season.
1 cactus cutting (approx. 100-150mm length)
