Description

Trichocereus peruvianus is a South American cactus species used traditionally for divining purposes. Collected at 2500m above seas level in the Matucana Valley, Peru. An upright species to 6 metres tall with blue glaucous skin.

San Mateo was listed as being a T. pachanoi species from the Matucana region of Peru. From our seedlings though it looks to be more like T. peruvianus or a natural hybrid as the parent photos were very like T. pachanoi.

Care and Cultivation of Trichocereus peruvianus ‘San Mateo’

Keep San Mateo in part-shade until large enough to deal with full-sun, which will depend on the increasing exposure you give the cactus. Once established, Trichocereus species can be watered most of the year in all climates, although they will cease to grow or slow right down over winter in colder areas. Fertilise regularly with fish emulsion/seaweed at half strength over the growing season.

1 cactus (approx. 100mm tall)
