Description
Trichocereus peruvianus is a South American cactus species used traditionally for divining purposes. Collected at 2500m above sea level near Matucana, Peru. An upright species to 6 metres tall with blue glaucous skin. The Matucana Sausage Cactus is a special clone originally grown from T. peruvianus ‘Icaro’ seed and shows segmented and unusual growth. Relatively slow-medium growing.
Care and Cultivation of Trichocereus peruvianus ‘Matucana Sausage Cactus’
Keep Matucana Sausage Cactus in part-shade until large enough to deal with full-sun, which will depend on the increasing exposure you give the cactus. Once established, Trichocereus species can be watered most of the year in all climates, although they will cease to grow or slow right down over winter in colder areas. Fertilise regularly with fish emulsion/seaweed at half strength over the growing season.

Nice chunky cutting arrived this morning. Looks just like the photos. Very happy with this cactus, it is clearly quite mystical in both appearance and presence. Must have for trich collectors.

Beautiful peruvianus. Hopefully I can grow it out into a girthy specimen. Its tad thin at the moment. Will be interesting to see how frequently it terminates too. This aint ‘Fields Sausage’, its a one off ‘Icaros DNA’ seedling that also terminates similarly to ‘Fields Sausage’…. Much slower too apparently. Look forward to seeing it reach maturity.
