Care and Cultivation of Welwitschia mirabilis

Sow Welwitschia mirabilis seeds in a deep pot in a well drained mix, preferably with a high inorganic ratio. The seeds germinate readily after 1-3 weeks and send down a taproot and raising their cotelydons. Keep moist until germination. After a while they will grow the set of leaves they will have their entire life. While they are highly adapted to low rainfall areas and to harvesting water from fog for their use, they respond well to water in a cultivated environment and are not a true succulent species.
