Trichocereus pachanoi ‘Huarazino’ (cactus)
Trichocereus pachanoi is a South American cactus species used traditionally for divining purposes. Named after Professor Aberlardo Pachano who travelled with Dr. Rose, the original western collector, in 1918 (Trout, 2005). An upright species to 6 metres tall. Also an excellent grafting stock.
Huraziño is a huge San Pedro de Huaraz, the San Pedros de Huaraz are very famous and desired by collectors from all over the world, an almost absence of thorns, Huarazino is a variety recommended for beginners or experienced collectors and is very rare in cultivation.
Care and Cultivation of Trichocereus pachanoi
Keep Huarazino in part-shade until large enough to deal with full-sun, which will depend on the increasing exposure you give the cactus. Once established, Trichocereus species can be watered most of the year in all climates, although they will cease to grow or slow right down over winter in colder areas. Fertilise regularly with fish emulsion/seaweed at half strength over the growing season.
