Description

Trichocereus bridgesii is a South American columnar cactus species from Bolivia. Also called Echinopsis lageniformis due to a taxonomy change. An upright species to 6 metres tall, large nocturnal white flowers.

‘Eileen’ is an Australian named clone with a very powerful growth habit and good disease resistance. Beautiful blue glaucous colour with a generally light spination, though it can become heavy in certain situations.

Care and Cultivation of Trichocereus bridgesii ‘Eileen’

Eileen likes a rich sandy potting mix, well drained and aerated. Apply fertiliser in spring and throughout the year, less to zero in winter/cold periods. Trichocereus species can be watered most of the year in all climates. Cold and drought hardy, frost tolerant.

Beautiful cactus. She started pupping only six months after I planted her (as a cutting) and is a fast grower, having grown over 10cm so far (in 7 months).

Bought a 150mm cutting 2/6/2020, at the same time I received 3 X 40cm cuttings of an unidentified columnar cactus from a friend. 4 months later (after winter) Eileen sprouted some seriously thick and healthy roots. 1 week after sprouting her roots, I have noticed a pup start to form. The cuttings from my friend have yet to root.
The reason I mention this, is it speaks to the strong growth genetics of Eileen. I’m so happy I just bought another 2 cuttings.
