Description

Leonurus sibiricus is a tall (1-2m) biennial with long flower rods composed of small pink/purple flowers. Native to Siberia, China, Taiwan and Korea. The herb lowers blood pressure, clears toxins, regulates menstruation and is also effective against bacterial and fungal infections. Young leaves are eaten as a vegetable and the roots are cooked with pork (China).

Called Marihuanilla, presumably for its resemblance to Cannabis sativa (Marijuana), it is smoked as a mild intoxicant (legal high). It is also called Chinese Motherwort.

Care and Cultivation of Leonurus sibiricus

Sow Leonurus sibiricus seed in spring/summer or when you can provide warm conditions. Cover lightly with soil in a well drained mix. Full-sun or part-shade in a well drained soil. Self seeds readily.
