Description

Californian Poppy is an annual member of the Papaveraceae family native to western North America. The whole plant contains alkaloids which are in their highest concentrations at flowering time. This can be at up to 1.1% dry weight. Can be smoked or a tea made for sedative effects.

Care and Cultivation

Californian Poppy seed can be sown just under the surface in spring, summer or autumn, direct sow into garden or in pots and separate once seedlings begin to crowd each other. Germination in 1-3 weeks, full sun to part shade. Biennial or perennial herb to 30cm tall.
