Capsicum chinense is species of chilli that is originally from the Amazon Basin, it was misnamed by a Dutch physician who called it Capsicum chinense (coming from China), a mistake which remains unchanged to this day. This is the hottest chilli species in the world, pods can vary from zero to 1 million+ Scoville Units (heat scale).

Charapita grows between 0.5 – 1 metre tall and 1 metre wide. Pods are small and green, turning yellow on maturity. Has a distinct fruity, citrus aroma like most Capsicum chinense. Moderate to very hot (7-8). Peruvian origin, this is a wild form of Capsicum chinense.

Care and Cultivation of Charapita
