Description

Brugmansia versicolor is a large shrub or small tree to approximately 8m tall. Flowers are about 30-50cm long and are produced copiously in distinct flushes and hang perpendicularly below the foliage. Brugmansia versicolor occurs at relatively low altitudes, up to 750m asl. It has a restricted geographic range on the western slopes of the Andes, being endemic to the Guayas Basin and south along the Gulf of Guayaquil in Ecuador. It occurs in rich alluvial flood plains with seasonally distributed average rainfall of between 2000-3500mm (Brugmansia. HUANDUJ. Hay, Gottschalk and Holguin. 2012).

Flowers start whitish and fade to apricot/orange. All parts of the plant contain tropane alkaloids and care should be exercised when handling.

Care and Cultivation of Brugmansia versicolor

Plant your cuttings directly into good potting mix (or they can be rooted in a glass of water), water in and they should shoot and root within 2-3 weeks.Brugmansia versicolor is pretty hardy for a Brug! In hard times it sheds a lot of its leaves and simply waits out for the rain. Keep it well watered and with a few regular heavy feeds a year it will produce an amazing spectacle in your garden.

2-3 stem cuttings (100-150mm length)
