Brachychiton gregorii – Desert Kurrajong (seed)

Description

Brachychiton gregorii is a member of the Malvaceae (prev. in the Sterculiaceae) family native to northern Australia. A tree 3-12m high. Flowers cream-yellow/green & red, Nov to Dec or Jan. Red sand, sandy loam. Undulating sand dunes, rocky ridges & slopes.

Can be trained as a succulent bonsai due to the large tuber it develops from an early age. Once would expect the seeds to be edible considering closely related species.

Care and Cultivation of Brachychiton gregorii 

Plant Brachychiton gregorii seeds just under the surface (0.5cm) in a well drained seed raising mixture, (potting mix:perlite:washed sand) in full sun. Keep moist until germination. A drought tolerant, beautiful and hardy species suitable for most gardens. Minimise or stop watering altogether in the colder months.
