Description
Anadenanthera colubrina is native to Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru (Torres & Repke, 2006). It is found from the equator to 30ºS latitude (in Australia, that would equate to all of QLD and into NSW mid coast). A mimosa-like tree from 3-30 metres tall, deciduous in cooler areas.
Seeds of Anadenanthera colubrina and Anadenanthera peregrina have been used for centuries as an hallucinogenic snuff by Indians of Argentina and southern Peru.
Anadenanthera peregrina is referred to as yopo whilst Anadenanthera colubrina is referred to as either cebil or vilca. More info at Erowid click here
Care and Cultivation of Anadenanthera colubrina var. cebil
Likes a full sun position and well-drained soil. Will respond well to regular watering over the warmer months. Anadenanthera colubrina is light frost and drought hardy once established due to its water storing tuber. Deciduous.
