Description

Acacia longifolia subspecies sophorae is a sprawling shrub found behind coastal dunes and beaches and in woodlands on sandy soil. It is common along the coast of south eastern Australia. Species photo from WorldWideWattle.

The seeds were eaten by Aboriginals and by early settlers. The green pods were steamed or thrown in a fire and the seeds then picked out and eaten, tasting rather like green peas (Low T. Wild food Plants of Australia). Also reported to contain tryptamines.
