Description

Acacia complanata is found along the east coast from around Bundaberg, QLD, to near Grafton, NSW, extending into inland central Queensland between the Blackdown Tableland (west of Rockhampton) and just north of Charleville. It is found on gravely and loam soils, occurring as an understorey shrub, though it will grow to 5 metres.

A good garden plant, it can flower at any time of the year. It has a lignotuber which allows it to regrow after fire.

Reported to contain up to 0.3% N-methyltetrahydroharman. Also present as a trace is tetrahydroharman.

Care and Cultivation of Acacia complanata

Scarification is required. Pour just boiled water over the seeds and allow to soak for a few hours to overnight. Plant 5mm under the surface of a well drained seed raising mix in full sun. Keep moist until germination. Prefers a loam/gravel soil. Well drained soil, fast growing and hardy. Likes a full sun position and is tolerant of dry conditions once established.
