Papaver rhoeas – Flanders Poppy (seed)
Papaver rhoeas is an annual member of the Papaveraceae family, also called Corn Poppy, a wild European and Mediterranean plant. Info at Wikipedia.
It has been used as a child sedative and sleeping aid, several alkaloids present are also present in Californian Poppy (Eschscolzia californica). It does not contain the opium alkaloids.
Care and Cultivation
Papaver rhoeas seed can be broadcast over prepared garden beds in late winter/early spring and kept watered until germination.
