Acacia obtecta (seed)
Acacia obtecta is confined to but locally common in the Paynes Find- Wubin- Kununoppin area of south-western WA, excluding the type locality at Lake Barlee. Grows in red loam or clay. Info at World Wide Wattle. A shrub 1-3m tall. Reported by JJ at the EGA conferences to contain 0.2% alkaloids phyllodes: 13 or so alkaloids, including DMT, the majority being beta-carbolines.
Care and Cultivation of Acacia obtecta
Scarification is required for Acacia obtecta seeds. Pour just boiled water over the seeds and allow to soak for a few hours to overnight. Plant 5mm under the surface of a well drained seed raising mix in full sun. Keep moist until germination.
Prefers a loam/gravel soil. Well drained soil, fast growing and hardy. Acacia obtecta likes a full sun position and is tolerant of dry conditions once established.
