Description

Acacia bakeri is probably the largest of all Australia Acacias, being recorded as able to grow to 50 metres tall, though most specimens are much shorter now due to clearing and this species slow but steady growth rate.

Its distribution extends from the Brunswick River in NSW to near the Burrum River in the Maryborough district, Qld. It occurs in lowland subtropical rainforest and rainforest margins, in volcanic and alluvial soil. Because of extensive clearing of rainforests, this species is possibly in danger of extinction. Info at world wide wattle.

Care and Cultivation of Acacia bakeri

DON’T use hot water treatment! Acacia bakeri seeds have a thin seed coat and do not need scarification. Plant ~0.5cm under the surface of a well drained mix in full sun to part shade. Keep moist until germination.

Prefers a loamy well drained soil. Not very fast growing but it is hardy and very long lived. Likes a full sun position.

10 seeds per packet (Gympie provenance, QLD)
